Welcome back everyone! I am certain that the 2011/12 school year will be another amazing one. Sage Canyon is truly a wonderful environment for our children to learn and grow. As your new PTA president, I have had quite a bit of time to ponder on what makes our school so special. During the summer, my kids attended CCW camp which happened to be located at Sage. I was struck by how different it felt, and I think the reason Sage Canyon is such a great place is because of the people. From the friendly volunteers who open car doors rain or shine, to Marion and Amy who always meet our needs with the quickest of ease, to the dedicated teachers who work with our children, to our fearless leader, Dr. LaRose who drives the success of our school like a Nascar superstar, it is the people who give our school it’s heart.

Along with the principal, teachers and staff and volunteers, the PTA is at the center of any successful year at our school. Each year, the PTA raises money thru fundraisers such as Fall Festival, restaurant nights and our family portraits. We use the money to support our programs including Dad’s Club, Imagination Machine Assembly, Science Fair, Healthy Choices week, Trivia Night, Roadrunners, Teacher Appreciation Week and so much more. All of these fundraisers and programs are run by parent volunteers. Your PTA membership also plays a vital role in providing these programs for our community. Your financial and volunteer support help provide a well rounded experience for our children.

We are also very lucky to have such strong school support for the Del Mar School Education Foundation. The DSMEF fundraises to provide enrichment programs in art, science, music, technology and PE. These programs allow our kids to grow in all areas of learning.

Our community starts with you. This year our goal is 100% membership in the PTA. We need more involvement on the many PTA committees and the DMSEF board. Though we have many wonderful and dedicated volunteers, we are always looking for more people to contribute their experience and expertise. Through your involvement you will get to know more of the people who make our school so great. You will also help enrich our children’s lives and feel rewarded by helping continue the excellence that has made our school such a success.

I look forward to having all of our families attend the first day of school volunteer sign-ups and welcome back coffee.
